PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project consisted of the construction of a below grade 1.5 million gallon cast in place concrete Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) reservoir. The tank was constructed 35’ underground and is immediately adjacent to the Puget Sound. The construction of the facility required the removal and disposal of nearly 10,000 cubic yards of contaminated and impacted soils. Stellar J then installed a custom watertight 120’ wide, 300’ long and 35’ deep steel shoring system 35’ below sea level.
The highlight of the project was the construction of a 5,000 Cubic Yard overnight monolithic continuous mass concrete pour that included the installation of 3 miles of cooling tubes in the concrete and a chilling system to control the thermal heat.
