Roseburg Energy is owned and operated by Stellar J Enterprises. The facility went into commercial operations in 2011 producing electricity for up to 1,444 homes. The 1.6-Megawatt Generator runs on the methane produced by the decomposition of garbage generated within the Roseburg County landfill. Federal regulations require landfill operators to release the gas without letting it escape directly into the atmosphere. For several years, the landfill burned off the methane through a flare. Roseburg Energy now harvests the landfill gas through a wellfield collection system and uses the methane produce electrical revenue. The county will receive 7% of the electrical revenue sales generated by the landfill. A win for the environment, Roseburg County, and Roseburg Energy.
